It’s been a long time since I ate at the same restaurant three times in eight days. So I have to say that The Cellar, which is not in a basement, is the best new restaurant in Albuquerque. It is a former video store that was owned by our close friends, Jeff and Nancy Gerlach. Now it’s been completely remodeled and decorated like a tapas restaurant in Spain. I know that for a fact, because I’ve been to a couple of tapas places in Spain, and they pretty much look like The Cellar. Even the bathroom is beautiful! Note the tasting bar, above. Now, about the food. I’ve had the Tuna and Salmon Crudo, which means raw with Spanish spices. Sort of Spanish sashimi. Very good. I also had a tuna sandwich unlike any other one I’ve ever tasted. This was cooked, but if I have it again, I’m going crudo. My favorite so far was the shaved lamb and avocado sandwich was wonderful. I’ve also tasted three of their soups–all great–with the one today the best, Red Chile and Bacon Soup.
If you’re ever in Albuquerque, this is the place to eat lunch or dinner. Visit their website, here.
