Bougainvilleas are spectacular vines that are used as highway decorations in Mexico:

However, they can also be tamed and turned into house plants if you are a careful pruner:

What you might think are petals on a blossom, those brilliant red things actually are bracts. The flowers are the tiny, white round objects in the middle of the bracts. The protrusion on the left is this bougainvillea trying to turn back into a vine. I will prune this back for the winter in the greenhouse.
