Birds “Spotted” Today

Yes, it’s a waterbird associated with beaches and sand, but of course the Rio Grande has both of those. This spotted sandpiper, above, eats fish, crawfish, tadpoles, and insects. More flashy is the summer tanager, which is omnivorous, eating insects and Russian olives.

Both of these birds were seen along the west drain of the Rio Grande.
