The Center for Science in the Public Interest announced the “winners” of its annual “xtreme eating” awards, determining the most damaging menu items for health-conscious diners eating chain restaurants. Nine menu items made the list of the all-time worst junk food in the nation. The “winner” contained a day’s worth of calories, three days’ worth of saturated fat, and six days of sodium in one gigantic burger. “Unfortunately, these extreme meals are more like the rule, not the exception,” said CSPI dietitian Lindsay Moyer. “America’s restaurant chains are serving up meals that seem engineered to promote diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and strokes. The 3,000-calorie burger platters of today make McDonald’s Quarter Pounders look like sliders.” Here is the so-called “winner.”
